Haven Family Health was founded by Dr. Marylin James in efforts to deliver quality medical care amidst this broken healthcare system. She has worked in various outpatient settings but was disheartened at how the “care” was being taken away from “healthcare”. Medicine has now become more corporate, and insurance driven with focus on metrics and quantity over quality. That is why she decided to start a Direct Primary Care practice so she could return back to how family medicine was in the old days when she grew up. Dr. James wishes to bring back that old Family doctor feel by having only a small panel of patients and getting to know them well. With her you won’t have any rushed appointments or long waits to get in to see her. You will get direct one-on-one care with only one provider and partner with her to create a personalized care plan for you.
Dr. James sees patients ages 4 and up all the way through the geriatric population. She does adult physical, well woman visits, pap smears, preventive care, chronic disease management for those with hypertension, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, weight gain. A lot of acute visits are handled through telemedicine when appropriate or patients can see her in the clinic.
She also does many minor outpatient procedures like incision and drainage of abscess, ear lavage, trigger point injection, mole removal, cryotherapy, suturing lacerations and so on. In addition to all the mainstay primary care services, Dr. James offers holistic services to her patients including helping women with pelvic floor issues, utilizing osteopathic manual therapy for various neck pain/shoulder pain, tailbone pain and other musculoskeletal problems. She is also currently getting training in Ayurvedic medicine which is a 5,000 year old science that originated and is still practiced in India. Dr. James uses Ayurvedic lifestyle and nutrition counseling to help patients who are interested in learning more about this integrative modality.
How does Direct Primary Care work?
Direct Primary Care is a practice model in which patients pay a small monthly membership fee (ranging from $35 to $85) every month for unlimited office visits and virtual visits. The focus here is to help patients in a cost effective and efficient manner. This model is suitable for people with various health conditions requiring close follow up or even for those who are overall healthy but wish to stay on top of their preventive screening. Having a reliable primary care physician is always better than Dr. Google! We take patients who have insurance as well as those who don’t have insurance.
